Aaron Boone to Have Surgery

Former Red Sox killer Aaron Boone is going to have open-heart surgery to replace an aortic valve. This was not an emergency but Boone’s doctors say that the procedure is neccesary. Aaron is currently with the Astros. He is told he’ll be able to play baseball again, but he is not sure if he will. If he doesn’t he’ll always be remembered for that night in October.

HOU                                           VS                NYY

Yankees have a 5 game win streak going into today’s game in Kissamee, FL. The Yankees will send out Chein Ming Wang to face the ‘Stros. He’ll have strict rules at the plate, He might not even swing that much. This is because he was injured running the bases at Houston last year and he was out for the rest of the year. The Astros will send out Mike Hampton who threw 4 scoreless innings last time out.

Former Yankee signs with Astros

Ivan Rodriguez signed a 1.5/1 yr deal with the Houston Astros today. He can double that with performance bonuses. Pudge split time with the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees last season hitting 7 home runs. The Astros get a good quality catcher to help their pitching staff that can struggle at times and Ivan may be the stabilizing force they need.

Yanks Go 2 for 2 in Games Today

The Yankees also defeated the Pirates today in a contest at Pittsburgh’s Sring Training complex. This one had a little more action with a total of 23 runs being scored in this one. Nyjer Morgan led the game off for Pittsburgh with a solo homer off Phil Hughes, Morgan is a good up and coming player I enjoy watching him. Doumit, Salazar, and Jones also homered for the Bucs. For the Yankees Austin Jackson, a top prospect, hit a homer off of Bautista in the 6th inning. Montero also homerd for the Yanks. The Yankees had 8 hits but scored 13 runs and left 7 on base.

Yankees Split Squads for 2 Matchups Today

The New York Yankees will play the Astros and the Pirates today. I don’t know how they are planning to split up but AJ Burnett is expected to pitch in one of the games. He threw two shutout innings in his last game and that is showing some really early promise. Brett Gardner and Melky Cabrera are too close to call still. You can see the games here on MLB.tv.

Talks with Pettitte Losing Steam

The talks with Andy Pettitte are losing their power a bit. The two parties are still in talks for a deal that would keep Andy in Pinstripes for atleast 1 more year. Pettitte was 14-14 last season with a 4.54 ERA. His second half of the season which is usually when he performs his best was less than steller than previous years. “I care a great deal about the guy and what he’s meant here,” Cashman said last week. “Ultimately, Spring Training is not upon us. The fifth starter is going to come, at this point, from one of those kids. If that changes, the best way to leave it is that we’ll certainly let you know.” Andy Pettitte is also open to a return to the Houston Astros where Andy went to the World Series in 2005.
